I Just created a new world, and there is a 10 second lag every time between when I remove/destroy a block, and when it goes away. Then another ~10 second lag for the game to register when I pick up the block.
Same thing happened on my previous world. Also:
- Whole chunks would generate as blank. Not just a graphics thing- but I literally walked into the blank chunk and fell off the map and died. This happened twice.
- Intermittent Freezing up- particularly around mobs. At night, I'll approach a group of mobs just fine. But then the game will freeze. Full 5 - 10 seconds of 0 frames. But then- it will all render at once. The mobs move in fast-motion, the sun/moon quickly animate, to catch up with what would have happened during that "blackout".
- Last two worlds I started, I spawned in the void beneath bedrock. The game went black for a few seconds then re-spawned me at the proper ground level.

I've been using this same computer just fine for 3 years. Never had any problems with Minecraft until a few months ago. Framerate is always fine- just weird stuff lately that makes the game almost unplayable.
(My previous map was giant... 1.6 GB. I started noticing these problems when the map started getting really big. But the problems continue even in new maps. Any chance that's related??)
I upgraded to the the current version of Java, and video drivers for my machine. Problem was unaffected.
Problem is NOT with fps. FPS is fine.
Problem is NOT with memory, or CPU being maxed out, or overheating.
Specs:
Windows 7 (updated fully as of ~1 month ago)
Java 7.45 (current recommended release)
Minecraft 1.73

I had been updating, and rolling back my Java drivers- but not restarting my machine. Oops. I usually stay up for a weeks at a time.
So yeah, it would appear to be the Java drivers that were the problem. So for future reference, update them, but also do a full hardware restart.
