Hello, I have been playing Minecraft for about a year and a half, and just recently got a message that prevents me from getting past the launcher. Here is the error message:

Probably just a corrupt Java install.

You may also want to remove the .minecraft folder completely, and let the launcher re-create it. It seems to have permission issues.

Well now I have a bigger problem. Java won't install. I found that I am running a 64-bit computer, browser, etc. And I tried to download it, but it didn't download. I also tried the offline downloader and that gave me an error message as well.

My apologies. I did not mean to say that it gave me an error message. Once I downloaded the .exe Java 64-bit offline installer, I opened it, and clicked install. However, after I clicked install, nothing happened. The window, notifying you that your installation was in progress never showed up. So then I ran the .exe Java file as an administrator and THAT worked. Java was successfully installed on my computer. Unfortunately I do not believe that this is a Java problem, as the launcher still gave me the error message that I posted.


So I did the second tip you suggested, and removed .minecraft from my computer, and now I can't even open the launcher.

To see if I missed something, I uninstalled and reinstalled Java and yes it gave me the same message, but it says 1.7.0_45


The launcher would not run without the .minecraft files so I ran the demo of the game in my browser to download the .minecraft files back.

Thanks for the help, but I figured it out. After trying to install another program, I researched a little and realized that a possible problem was a corrupt user account on my actual computer. So I created another account on my computer, and now it works.
