i got my son a PC laptop to keep his minecrafting off my iMac, and to make "mod"-crafting easier.
It's not going so good.
When he tried to sign in, MOJANG found his account, but won't run or download 1.7.4-- which is what he's been using on my iMac. After about 24 hours of struggling, we now have access for him to play 1.5.2.
But i'm unable to upgrade!
i don't think i'm even able to get the "new" launcher, required for the "Horse" update and ever after.
Here's our platform:
Refurbished IBM ThinkPad w/2 GB RAM, intel Core2Duo cpu (T7300 @ 2.00 GHz), 32-bit OS, running Windows 7 Home Premium.
You're unable to update because 1.5.2 is the last supported version for that launcher. You need to get the new one working, or it won't update. Also might have something to do with the potato you're trying to run it on. An old CPU with integrated graphics isn't generally powerful enough to run games.
Thanks, both of you, for denigrating the gift that Santa Claus left my 8-year-old son.
i really appreciate that.
Mostly, however, i would appreciate an answer to these questions--
Is it POSSIBLE to load the newer launcher and run 1.7.4 on the hardware/software i listed?
Can the hardware/software i listed be upgraded to allow?
Is there more information that i have to provide, to get some help/answers?
As i alluded in the beginning, i am a Mac user, and am wandering in a world i wouldn't chose.
The last time i played computer games, it was on a commodore 64, nearly 30 years ago--
and they looked like minecraft.
Most laptops generally aren't upgradeable with the hardware, not sure if the specific integrated graphics are able to run the drivers but I'm assuming they can't.

Wait, so you can't download the launcher? What happens when you try to download it? Here are some screenshots I took of how to download the new launcher (in case you don't know how):
^^^Click the big orange button that says "Download" after you have logged in on minecraft.net.
^^^For this you will click the blue text that says "Minecraft.exe" right under "Minecraft for Windows"
It should start downloading. Once it is done downloading open it. You should be set to play Minecraft 1.7.4.
Also, what others are saying about your son's new computer is pretty much accurate. He will be able to play Minecraft on it, but it will be rather choppy and slow. Either way, he'll be able to play it.
