I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 and ever since I could always play minecraft without this org.lwjgl.LWJGLException: Pixel format not accelerated error. I have checked for updates for all my drivers in my Device Manager and it says that everything is up to date.
Environment:
Java: SE Runtime Environment <build 1.7.0_45-b18>
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro
Graphics Card: Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family <8.15.10.2697>
Installed RAM: 2GB
Processor Model: Intel(R)Core(TM) Duo CPU T2450 @ 2.00GHz <6.3.9600.16384>
When I click Play in the 1.3.7 Launcher It gives me a Crash Report

That is an old integrated card, please be aware of that. Updating your drivers via the device manager is never the best way to do it. In any case you will not be able to run the game with that card on Windows 8.1, as Intel has ceased support for it, and the latest drivers that has been created does not support Minecraft, with it dating back to 2009.
In the future, please review hardware compatibility before upgrading to a newer OS.
I have the exact same problem. Windows 8.1 Pro, with an ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT card. This card is SUPPOSED to support OpenGL 2.1 and above, but Windows reports the card as being OpenGL 1.1 (the same as the integrated graphics on my motherboard). Windows 8.1 is using it's own WDDM 1.1 drivers. I tried installing the ATI Catalyst software (several different versions), and NONE of them work. No matter what I do, the system reverts to the Windows 8.1 WDDM 1.1 driver. I still get the error message in Minecraft.
