So whenever I start Minecraft, an extra Java Platform SE Binary appears while the main one is still active (Looking at the Task Manager). At first it doesn't do much but use a tiny little bit of memory. After a while though, it starts to use more of my CPU and Minecraft lags like hell. Is this normal or is it some sort of bug?
Here's an image. You can see the two Java programs at the top.
One of the javaw.exe's is the Launcher, the other is Minecraft. Try stopping the one that uses tons of memory. If Minecraft closes then it's a normal case of lag. If nothing happens you need to redownload the launcher.
