So, I've been having this problem on single player since a few weeks ago. When I break a block it disappears like normal, then a split second later reappears, I wait for a few seconds, and only then does it finally disappear and drop it's item, which after that I sometimes can't even pick it up. I have no mods on so it can't be that, and nothing about the game is laggy, everything loads fine, this is my only issue, but it's making building virtually impossible. Doing regular Google searches only brings me to online issues of "building too close to spawn" or server lag, but neither of these are my issue as I'm playing offline.
Also, it seems I can only break one block at a time. If I try to break more, the ones after the first never disappear, unless I wait and break them again after the first has finally broken. Beyond that, it seems that mobs of any and all kinds can only move an inch at a time, while my attacks don't lag at all.
This issue started randomly, I didn't update in the time, it happened once, I restarted the game, didn't happen again for weeks, now it happens every single time without fail for no reason, and only seems to happen in the worlds that I've played longest on.
Weird, the problem seems to have magically disappeared :/ If it happens again I'll post all the info I can. Sorry for the lack of details, never posted here before.
Its a bug with the spawn location.
If you move away from it, say like 50 blocks ish it should be fine.
On multiplayer server if you are opped then it should be fine as well.
Source: Same problem. =p
If you have found a solution please let me know. this is what i found
Recently I've been having the same problem. I recently updated to 1.8 although the problem may have been going on before I updated. If not, it just randomly started. I've tried moving a couple chunks away from the affected area, and it works for a minute or two. Before long, the problem is back. I've tried reloading the game, moving large distances away, and the problem always comes back.
So, it seems you know a lot about mincecraft, so I'm going to ask for your advice. I just set up my minecraft server, and I tried to break blocks. Didn't work. I found out that I needed to OP myself, and I did. But now, I have a problem. I will mine a block, it will be like when I'm not allowed to break it, I destroy it, it respawns almost immediately afterwards. But maybe one minute later, it disappears, and the item drops.
I happens to me but ONLY when I have the video set to a far distance. If I have it set to 9 or 11 or 13 then I can play comfortably.
Sometimes I will set it to 21 or even 32 but just because I want it to generate a lot more of the map. If I try to do anything I will get what you describe. Apparently because so much of it is working so hard in the background on parts of the world that I am no where close to. So now when I have it filling in the map I just stand still and look down at the ground so it can finish quickly.
On an old small machine you might even want to try 7 or 5 chunks for play.

I'm getting the same problem and nothing I seem to do fixes it. The sad thing is my daughters PC which is massively older and running XP runs MC like a dream. Whereas mine which is brand new, new install, quad core, etc is unplayable because every 10 seconds or so it skips like this. I've even tried taking it down to 5 blocks or less. The log always says something like "Ooops! Did the time change..." or to that effect. So frustrating because I REALLY would like to play the game but I just can't....

Halp?
Edit: I take it back, it helped for about 60 seconds, now it's the same.
