So I have been having a problem with my Minecraft FPS for quite some time. I used to get around 250 fps on Minecraft on full settings, but now I get 40 fps. I have reinstalled Minecraft, allocated more RAM, set it to dedicated NVIDIA GPU, and so on. It began around the time I updated to 1.7, but I have a lingering suspicion that it could be due to my update to Windows 8.1. I am hesitant about that though, because all other games (much more demanding games) run just fine. It is getting to the point of being almost unplayable, and is extremely irritating since my computer is more than powerful enough to run Minecraft at 200 fps. If anyone has any idea on how to help fix this problem, please feel free to reply. Thank you.

Edit: I tried running previous versions of Minecraft (back to 1.5.2) and it doesn't seem to be 1.7, because I still seem to get around 50 FPS on 1.5.2 as well. That being said, it is most likely due to Windows 8.1, which is strange, since all other games run fine.

I had a similar problem, the game had terrible FPS but high end games of today played on ultra. Make sure your FPS limit is set to above 60.
