I'm trying to play offline since I do not have great internet. How does one do that with the latest Minecraft? I was able to do it before if I failed to log in, now if I can't log in I just can't play.
EDIT: Well it seems it will allow me to play offline if I can't fully connect to the internet for it.
Bad internet = no ability to launch the game at all-- launcher goes into mode of downloading update (1/10)... failing then quiting. Is there any way of forcing the game to run without the launcher looking to the internet?
Here we have only dialup and it is flaky at best. Granted that once logged in successfully we are good for a few days or more, but then it invariably does the same until we can move the computer to a high speed line, successfully login, then take the computer back home again. A bit of a pain.
We have the game, have the files, and should be able to start it without the help of the internet.
If you run it with no internet after logging in once, and it fails to launch, that means that you don't have all the files needed.
If you're sure you have all the files, try disconnecting from the interneton purpose. Minecraft should detect that it has no connection and will run as if it has the files already. (It will still check them to make sure they are legit) If this fails, it didn't download everything it needs. Next time you go to a place with a good connection, make sure that it successfully downloads everything. (Game will launch). Also load up a world so it can download the assets such as sounds and others.
If none of the above works, post what it says under the development console after it fails to launch.

Gangsir,
I understand where you are at - but let me repeat that we can be good for a few days, sometimes even a couple of weeks: we can play, run existing worlds, launch new worlds, open to LAN and play for days, whatever you want to do. Seems to imply that all files are there.
But eventually, and I can promise you this, the bootstrap error for 1.7.4 will resurface and the only cure seems to be to load up on high speed.
You are right that if we launch with network disconnected first we can forstall this problem. But once the bootstrap error occurs running with disconnected network will not help. Mistakes happen, and sometimes someone forgets to disable network before launching.
Seems like we should be able to launch in a complete 'offline' mode, but no dice?apologies to azaraxzealot for the hijack.
If none of the above works, post what it says under the development console after it fails to launch.
Eh? Having that would help a lot more.

Hi,
You have to login atleast once to play Minecraft.
The launcher will no longer allow you to play offline unless the servers are actually down, or no network connection.
Also, why do you need to play offline?
Nothing is downloaded if the files already exist, all you to is auth, run some checks and that should be about it.
