Hiya. I got a new PC (Asus S550CM-CJ119H W8 UB TOUCH) with these specs:
GPU: GeForce GT 635M
CPU: Intel Core i5 3337U CPU @ 1.8 GHz
Memory: 8.00 GB RAM (7.98 Usable)
Current Resolution: 1366 x 768, 60Hz
Driver Version: 331.82
Operating System: Windows 8.1
I can only get a solid 9 FPS in Minecraft on the lowest settings. Even my 12 year old windows XP desktop has a solid 20. I've tried allocating an extra 4 GB of RAM, but it only uses 396/4000 MB. Yet doesn't increase performance. at all.
I have 64bit Java installed. I tried switching to 32, didn't increase/Decrease FPS rate. So I switched back to 64. I then thought that maybe my extra cores werent in use.So I checked. I had only one in use. So I enabled the other 3, which also didn't change anything in Minecraft. But improved all my other games performance. I then tried running Minecraft in compatibility mode Windows 7. It actually made it slightly worse.
I can run games like Skyrim, Payday, Rage all on High/Medium setting without any lag, at all. So why is Minecraft only getting 9 FPS.
I have no huge programs running in the backround that would use up all the CPU usage. It's only at about 20 percent whenever I load up a game. Then Java SE Runtime Enviroment takes up about 30-40 percent.I've seen it take 60 once before.
I've had this sitting on a tech forum for 3 days and no one has replied yet. This is my last hope.
To diagnose this problem we will need to see a DxDiag report. A DxDiag Report allows us to see your graphics card and the driver version you have installed. To obtain a DxDiag report, click Windows Key+R, type DxDiag into the box that appears, hit enter, click "Save as log file", and save it as a log to the desktop. Then, go to https://gist.github.com/, paste the content of the DxDiag log file into the box, click "Create Secret Gist" and share with us the link it takes you to. Thanks!
Do you have any mods installed that might lag your minecraft?
You could also try installing optifine in it's better version seeming that u have a decent computer. Optifine usually doubles if not triples FPS.
well he should not have mods since its in unmodified support

I'm back from my hibernation. Most likely gone so don't pm me.
If you like fixes for LAG in MINECRAFT then you will like my mod;D http://minecraft.cur...splus-lagfixes/

No, I have no mods installed at all. But I shouldn't have to have optifine install, since my computer is fairy decent. But still, even if it trippled my FPS rate of nine, I still wouldn't be happy.

Have you tried various things in Options/Video settings? Reduce the render distance, change from 'fancy' to 'fast', and definitely turn off "mipmaps" which causes problems for lots of people.
Make sure you've got the latest graphics drivers from the manufacturer's website.
Close all other programs when running minecraft.
Try full-screen and windowed.
Sounds like your java might be slightly confused too, after trying different versions, so completely uninstall Java, then reinstall java (from the Sun website only). If you have a 64-bit operating system, you should install 32 bit java first and then 64 bit java. Read that linked page for details.
I have all my settings on the lowest of the low, to answer your first question. (e.i Fast Graphics, tiny render, Advanced OpenGL off, Max FPS etc)
I definetly have the latest driver. (Not including beta drivers).
I always do close all other 'big' programs before I game.
Full screen doesn't change a thing. But windowed increased FPS by about 5.
So, are you saying to install both 32bit and 64bit of java? I had a hunch it might be java. Since Minecraft is the only game I own that runs off it. Java also keeps telling me I have a 32bit computer, in which I don't. So it give me the reccomended installation of 32bit.
Right click on minecraft launcher on desktop, click run with graphics processor, pick the nvidia card. Not integrated graphics
My guess is that you have been using the igpu on your cpu. Which is slower.
Well, just ran it with the Nvidia card. But when I went to select it, it was already default. BUT I'm back to a stable 50-60 FPS. Weird. But thanks man for your help!
Loaded up Minecraft after a restart. Back down to nine FPS. I remembered to run it with the Nvidia card. Tried running it with both Win 7 compatibility, and Win 8. No luck.
So I completely un-installed Java, then installed Java 32 Bit, then 64 Bit (In that order). This just created a bigger problem. The FPS is at about 20. But every 3 seconds, BOOM. 1 FPS for about 2 seconds. Also, the processing time in the game is un-believably slow. (Destroying a block, and waiting for it to actually disappear) Ranging from 5-10 seconds.
I've just about had it with this ing computer. So many problems, this is just one.
You may have a corrupted world. Create a new one, and see if such effects linger, if they do not then it confirms my hypothesis.
If your world got corrupted you can try to repair it with MCEdit. Open the offending world in MCEdit, press 'ctrl-i' and select 'Repair regions' in the dialogue which pops up. Once this has completed, save your world and exit MCEdit.
To download MCEdit, go to http://www.mcedit.net/ and choose the version appropriate for your OS.

Running the launcher alone on the Nvidia card is not enough. You have to set up Java.exe and Javaw.exe so that they will too, since they are the processes that the game engine runs off of. You can do this through the Nvidia Control Panel. Make sure you do the one in the /Program Files folder not /Program Files (x86) and use the 64 bit java installation.
Srsly, a "GT 635M" is 6 years old; it's no great surprise that it cannot play current games well.
I think you may be confusing this with another card. The GT 635M was announced mid-2011. It's a very capable GPU. I have a friend with one in his laptop and he maxes Minecraft with ease, and can even play with the shader mod with decent frame rates. He was even able to play Crysis 3 on medium settings.
>I've had this sitting on a tech forum for 3 days and no one has replied yet. This is my last hope.
Be patient.
"a solid 9 FPS in Minecraft" is pathetic; most people wouldn't consider that acceptable.
It sounds like your computer cannot handle the current version of Minecraft.
You can play older versions from the launcher, by using "Edit profile" and "Use version".
The thread on the tech forum has been there something like 2 weeks now. And still no replies.
And I know 9 frames is pathetic, why do you think I made this thread then?
My computer is quite capable of handling Minecraft because for the first week it was installed, I had 60 frames+ on the highest settings. But it just suddenly.....dropped.

It plays current games fine. I've been playing Skyrim, Payday, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Garrys Mod, Rage, etc all on medium to high settings. I can actually get Euro Truck simulator 2 on Ultra some days.
