I don't really know what happened, but all my hostile mobs seemed to have vanished. I play on a private server with my cousin and I have the only admin powers so I know it must have been something I did but I don't know what... We play on hard difficulty and so night is kind of a dangerous time, or it use to be. Use to be every night i had so many zombies trying to get over my water wall that I would play whack-a-mole with em.
The only thing I can think of is that I was messing with the game mode a bit when I was trying to get a command block teleporter between our two bases. First it was saying it wasn't enabled on our server, which I eventually found out how to set to true, then It told me i can only do it in creative mode, which I found a way to set that.
I thought I set everything back to normal but there are just no mobs still... I don't like it. i miss the danger and having to dig myself into a hole until morning if I was out exploring late. Just now I casually walked through the jungle at night and didn't see a single mob... a lot of chickens for some reason, but no mobs.
What do i need to do to get the danger back? I've tried just about everything i could think of and what little I could find online. The game is set back to survial, its on hard, tried reseting it.

well, I did recently discover a massive cave/abandoned mine structure under my base, I went on a naked suicide run to see how deep it went. If it didn't load those chunks or whatever, I suppose they could all be hiding down there, but I went to get a horse that was over 1000 blocks away and i didn't see any hostile mobs at all.
update - just did a reset and when I came back it was night, and there were hostiles, now I'm waiting for the next night cycle to see if they spawn again. I'll got for a jog too and check out a different area if they don't spawn again
well, I'm betting you were right about the cave thing, it seems that after my last journey (and maybe the last reset) things seem to be spawning on the surface again. I saw a rather unpleasant sight when I walked out my front door. 7 spiders, 3 skeletons, an enderman and 2 zombies. turned right around and walked back in. Whatever was the problem, it seems resolved now.
though, I won't be tampering with the game mod or files for a long time. I was getting nervous that I might have to make a new world, especially after both our bases had come so far.
Bad news, the problem wasn't gone... My cousin just texted me asking if the mobs were turned off or something. I guess resets fix it momentarily but after they despawn they don't come back. Please don't tell me that we have to reset the world.
