I am playing Minecraft at home, but in a couple months I will be housesitting and that location does NOT have internet yet (and I cannot count on it being in by the time I get there). I won't even be able to take my own computer there - it's an airplane flight and I do not own/use laptops. The only thing I can think of is to take my 500G external SSD to hook up to THEIR computer (same Windows 7 OS on a better computer than mine) with the game on it. Is this a possible workaround?
The Minecraft launcher, is always dynamically changing and updating something here or there.
If you login once, the game will recognize you and will automatically give you a "token" to login, along with making the game available for future use in event of no Internet connection, or failure to communicate with the servers.
This only works if the files already exist already, but from what you said, you cannot take your computer with you; so, that's not much of an option.

I was planning on installing it on the external, logging in while hooked up at home, then taking the external with me and playing on the external while there until the internet is installed there. Still not viable?
Well, that 3G thing sounds like it might be my best bet if Time-Warner doesn't start service in that new area before I get there. Of course, if whatever phone company gets lines in I can live with dialup for the month I will be there just to be able to get by with primitive things. Thanks!!
You will first need to download the game, install it, and copy your entire .minecraft folder (With shortcut) to the flash drive. You may want to download a Java installer as well and copy it to the flash drive, without running it.
When you get to the house, you will want to copy the .minecraft folder once again, and place it in the Roaming folder inside of Appdata. USB is very slow, and trying to run an entire game off of it would be insane.
The only issue is you can forget about mods or resource packs during your stay, as they will be unavailable to download.
EDIT: As previously mentioned, driver updates could be an issue.

Good luck!
Fantastic directions, THANK YOU!!
Somewhat unlikely their computer needs drivers: it was on the internet until the 15th, and in regular use. Just in case, I will download drivers to the external drive also. And Java for sure, since I don't think the owner plays anything that uses Java.
If I'm going to run it off their HD (it's family, no conflicts involved putting things on their computer), shouldn't I have the installer on the external as well? I'm not a tech wizard but I thought installs had to be run on the computer, and I never ever try a reg edit.

Long answer: With some setting up.
