Hello there! All of the sudden my Minecraft has been getting really bad block lag for an unknown reason!
The minecraft version I'm playing on is 1.7.2! My Minecraft doesn't lag at all except for the block lag! which is probably the most annoying types of lag!

My PC specs:

Processor: Intel core 2 quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66ghz 2.67 ghz

Installed memory (RAM): 3.00 GB

System Type: 32-bit operation system

Operating system: Windows 7 Ultimate

Please tell me how to fix it

Try changing your Options/Video Settings - set it to "Graphics:Fast", and "Render Distance: 10", and turn MipMaps off. Does that help?

A_Herb is referring to low framerate. A_Herb, he is experiencing lag, not low framerate.

About how long does it lag? 5 seconds? 10 seconds?

As with what A_Herb said, can you please liken your scenario with one of the two options below:

1. You break a block, it reappears, but then disappears ~5 seconds later, giving you an item.

2. Minecraft moves like a slideshow, and when you press F3 it says "5-10 FPS"
