Please Note: I have VERY limited development skills
My 8-year-old son plays Minecraft, and I bought the PC version a year ago or so. It is version 1.3.7, and I've tried many times to do the update to the latest version (1.7.4). It will allow him to launch it and play it, but when he closes it out and attempts to play later, it only goes to the 1.3.7 version.
How do I update the version so that it defaults to the newer version? Again, I apologize for my limited skills in code, etc.
1.3.7 is the launcher program version, which is the latest.
The launcher launches the actual game according to the profile that you select before hitting "Play". It is the profile selection that controls which version of minecraft will run. It can be set to any specific version or it can be set to "latest version". The profile also controls whether or not you are choosing among old 'alpha' and 'beta' versions, or developmental 'snapshot' versions
