I recently built a new pc and wanted to test it out. I downloaded a bunch of steam games like TF2 and Garry's Mod and they work perfectly with high fps. I tried Minecraft and could not play at all. The fps was 30-60 but would drop to 10 once in a while (probably loading chunks), but it was as if it was laggy. The mouse would jerk around and I couldn't move a one block space without it freezing for a second.
These are my specs.
CPU: AMD FX 6300 six core 3.5GHz
RAM: 8GB
Graphics: Gigabyte Geforce GTX 650 Ti
Windows 8.1
I've updated my drivers and I'm running the latest version of Java. I've tried Optifine and turning the settings down. I've even allocated 4GB or RAM. Please help;
update: fixed it. apparently windows 8.1 doesn't play nice with how minecraft handles the mouse input. running in windows 8 compatibility mode fixes it.

Retired StaffCan you be sure? Please provide your DxDiag log.

Please specify the version, and build number, along with the arch.
Note that more ram does not mean better performance. You may have vSync turned on, or that the game is not using the card to render.
