Ok so I recently bought minecraft for my PC and when I run the game, it runs fine for about an hour, then my computer shuts down instantly. I've read somewhere that that happens when your computer gets too hot and the computer is indeed hot. The fans never turn to cool down my laptop but only when I play this game. They work fine on skyrim and battlefield 4.
My computer specs:
Alienware m17x r4
Intel i7 2.4 (turbo boost 3.4)
Nvidia GeForce gtx675m 2gb
16gb ram
128gb samsung ssd 840 pro series
500gb hitachi hard drive
1920x1080 LED screen
It also lags when I try to bump up the in-game visual settings. I feel like my computer should be able to easily run a game like minecraft on the highest settings when it can run skyrim on ultra with no problem.
The fans run fine during other games just like it's supposed too. It's just when I play minecraft, it doesn't use it so I don't think I need new fans.If I were to download a manual fan control program would that fix it?

No, that is not the problem. Pastmaster was more along line meaning getting a Cooling Pad for it of your choice (personal choices). Welcome to reason why you do NOT buy Alienware or Dell/HP products. You do not get your quality you think you are "paying" for.
The heat issue is due to poor engineering, you cannot fix poor engineering problems like this yourself or anyone else.
However given its nothing new that Minecraft is detected as a non demanding application/game, the fan controller program if any may not be turning on the fan since it thinks the application is not resource demanding when it is.
The system should came with software or power control that will let you manually adjust such. You should not need 3rd party stuff.

If I helped you, press the little green arrow on the bottom right of my post!
Opening the case does not void the warranty. You can self service Alienwares and your warranty will still be valid.
