Hello, in version 1.7.2 and above of Minecraft PC I have been having an issue where in both single and multiplayer, all players including myself have the default Steve skin. I have tried with modded, Nodus, and totally clean vanilla clients all with no luck. In all previous versions this has not been a problem.
I am running 32 bit windows vista, service pack 2 (i know, old service pack , but i can't get 3 to install)
Hp pavillion something tower computer, 2 gb of ram, dual core intel cpu, nvidia geforce graphics card.
I was wondering if there is anything i can do to fix this.
Thank you.
And merry Christmas!

Unless the servers have been down every day since the update, i don't think that is it. And, while playing, i was skyping my friend and he said he could see the skins.

Nothing seems to have changed regarding the skin server with 1.7, same URL as before.
and your skin is retrievable from the server: http://skins.minecra...ins/Jtpetch.png
In the past people have experienced software blocking the skin downloads because they are small images (i.e. possible beacons or ads) but I don't know why that wouldn't affect all versions if that was your problem.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this, because i directly set my skin via the skindex, without downloading. And if i use an older minecraft version i see my skin.

Minecraft shows you skins (including your own) by downloading them from the skin server on demand, i.e. if you need to see FooBar's skin, it'll be downloaded from the skin server so it can be shown to you. And I said I'm not sure why it would work in some but not all versions, because the skin server URLs haven't changed in 1.7 from the what the earlier versions used. Nevertheless, 1.7 isn't the same and might do downloads slightly differently, even if the URL didn't change.
At the time of the new update, i did have my firewall down because i was messing with some minecraft server stuff, so i'm not sure thats the problem. Could it be i am missing some key file?

He reason for this problem is because your probably running on a server that is currently below your version. Even though the fact you can play on it with higher versions the skins stick with the servers made version
