Whenever I try to play on a server (any server), I always get disconnected randomly after about 2 min or so, although sometimes it's within 10 seconds of logging in. I always get a bad packet id. I am using MC v1.7.2 on Windows 7 x64. I have Java 7u45 for both x86 and x64, which I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled three times. I have regenerated the 1.7.2.jar and deleted my entire versions folder. The only things I have not tried are completely deleting-reinstalling minecraft, and reinstalling windows itself. Another computer on this my LAN does not have any issues with this, so it cannot be my router or modem. I have tried everything, and I've run out of ideas. Does anyone have any idea what to do?
Is it really "2 minutes" on any/all servers? Or does it vary?
I'm mostly thinking it's due to a bad internet connection. Unfortunately, MC does require a good connection.
My own is not great, and there are some servers I can't stay connected to.
If the error after a few mins on a server is like 'timeout' and stuff, I suspect it really is a problem between your net connection and theirs, which isn't anything anyone can do much about. Maybe ask your ISP to check your connections are good.
The time varies greatly. It cannot be my internet connection, because another computer on my LAN (which is connected to the same router, and thus the same modem, and thus the same internet provider) is able to connect without this issue at all. I am having modem issues, but those are unrelated and affect my entire internet, not just minecraft. The error is a "bad packet id", and it's always the same (except for which id is bad). Single player works fine. Minecraft is not crashing, just disconnecting. This happens for every server I connect to for 1.7.2 no matter what. The problem started about a month ago. I have had this computer for about a year, and the modem for about the same time.
