I really don't even know where to begin, except I guess at the beginning: My son, 9yrs old, is Autistic and probably knows waaaay more about this than I do but he cant figure it out either. Approximately a year and a half ago we paid for Minecraft, downloaded and played it perfectly fine with no issues for, umm, I'd guess just short of a year. Then all of a sudden it would restart everytime we hit play on the Launcher it would load for a few seconds then revert right back to the launcher. I am (mostly) computer illiterate, but my wife read a bunch of stuff on here and even though she knows quite a bit about normal pc stuff (not a programmer or anything but really well versed otherwise) the only thing that she was able to figure out was the possibility that he somehow messed up his acct and maybe even possibly got himself accidentally Banned?? I will try to put as much info here as possible so everyone can see what our issues are and may be able to help. Also I am using a Sony laptop with Windows 7 and have done all my updates, including Java, Flash and regular Windows updates. Mostly using IE8 but have tried Opera, Google Chrome and ummm ... oh wait that's it just those 3.
So that is everything I know, I also have a couple minor questions, first, is it even possible to get Banned from gameplay on Minecraft and if so can it be reversed? Second I tried re-downloading it but pretty sure I didn't do everything right and was wondering if its possible I made it worse?
It has been about 6 months now with no Minecraft and my son has been driving me crazy for ALL of it, I hope someone can help us

Okay, you will be very relieved to know this. It isn't possible to get banned from Minecraft, and even if your son did get banned from these forums (Which is quite hard), they are not official forums and thus he would never be locked out of the game.
Now that we got that out of the way, what your son is experiencing is a crash. This is normal, it happens to the best of us, and is usually easy to fix. To start, try re-downloading Minecraft. To do this, delete everything to do with Minecraft on the machine (Make sure your son backs up his saves), and then re-install the game from Minecraft.net.
EDIT: Read rest of post, I didn't see you tried that already. Okay, try uninstalling and reinstalling Java. Your son or wife should know how to do this. If they do not, there are plenty of tutorials online related to the subject.
If this works, great! If it doesn't, post back, and we will try to help you further.

Thank you all very much for your suggestions so far, unfortunately nothing has worked yet, I uninstalled Java and Minecraft then re-downloaded them both and I still have the same results. I click play on the launcher and after a few seconds it goes back to it. To be more precise, when I click launcher the green loading bar goes across the bottom of the launcher panel for about 2 seconds then the box that says Mojang in big letters across it comes up and says Minecraft 1.7.2 at the top, that stays up for about 1 second and acts like its opening minecraft but that's the point at which it reverts back to the launcher. It gives no on-screen error messages of any kind. I don't know what to do next. Hopefully that gives you a slightly better picture of my problem and maybe some more ideas for what I should do next??

As to the first stand-out item: I have already uninstalled java and re-installed 7.45 version, with the same results ...
As to the 2nd, well, umm . . . Keep in mind I am an admitted computer illiterate (my 9yr old autistic son who cant even read or write yet, knows how to do more on a pc than I do) but that being said I have 2 questions: If my son watches almost 1000 videos a week from about 12 different sources (mostly brain-pop, you-tube, Netflix & Hulu) and plays at least 2 dozen other online-only games during the course of that same week, all with no glitches, very little lag and no other known issues, how does that point to the graphics card crashing?
And my 2nd question is: What the heck is a dxdiag and how do I do one?
ps. I guess I have a third question: What's a gpu driver and how can it get outdated if it was working fine on minecraft for almost a year??
As for why other things don't crash but minecradft does, its basically that minecraft is a java game which isn't well written at the code level at times, and other games are mostly well made games running their own software, so they are alot more stable. (i tried to make that as simple as i could)
The gpu is the graphics card processor, the drivers can get out dated by the game updating and needing better files etc, but the files themselves not updating on your computer.
The dxdiag will tell me (or whoever looks) what drivers you have, and we can see if they need updating or not
I'm sure webrosc has this in hand, but I did notice that a lot of posts with this error referred to full screen mode.
If it used to work, and then suddenly stopped, it may be that your son switched into full screen mode (or some other mode) that causes trouble.
these options are saved in a text file called options.txt that you or your wife could temporarily rename to see if that fixes the problem.
To find this file, in the launcher hit "Edit Profile" on the profile your son uses. Then "Open Game Dir", and options or options.txt will be right there.
Ask your son if he did anything big (Changing filenames, etc.) shortly before the issue arose. Also, the approximate date when the issue started happening could be helpful as well, as we can see if any big driver updates or anything of the sort happened around then.

Also I am using a Sony laptop with Windows 7 and have done all my updates, including Java, Flash and regular Windows updates. Mostly using IE8 but have tried Opera, Google Chrome and ummm ... oh wait that's it just those 3.
So that is everything I know, I also have a couple minor questions, first, is it even possible to get Banned from gameplay on Minecraft and if so can it be reversed? Second I tried re-downloading it but pretty sure I didn't do everything right and was wondering if its possible I made it worse?
It has been about 6 months now with no Minecraft and my son has been driving me crazy for ALL of it, I hope someone can help us

Now that we got that out of the way, what your son is experiencing is a crash. This is normal, it happens to the best of us, and is usually easy to fix. To start, try re-downloading Minecraft. To do this, delete everything to do with Minecraft on the machine (Make sure your son backs up his saves), and then re-install the game from Minecraft.net.
EDIT: Read rest of post, I didn't see you tried that already. Okay, try uninstalling and reinstalling Java. Your son or wife should know how to do this. If they do not, there are plenty of tutorials online related to the subject.

this points at your graphics card drivers crashing, if the java update didn't work then please provide your dxdiag and we can see if your gpu drivers are outdated too
As to the first stand-out item: I have already uninstalled java and re-installed 7.45 version, with the same results ...
As to the 2nd, well, umm . . . Keep in mind I am an admitted computer illiterate (my 9yr old autistic son who cant even read or write yet, knows how to do more on a pc than I do) but that being said I have 2 questions: If my son watches almost 1000 videos a week from about 12 different sources (mostly brain-pop, you-tube, Netflix & Hulu) and plays at least 2 dozen other online-only games during the course of that same week, all with no glitches, very little lag and no other known issues, how does that point to the graphics card crashing?
And my 2nd question is: What the heck is a dxdiag and how do I do one?
ps. I guess I have a third question: What's a gpu driver and how can it get outdated if it was working fine on minecraft for almost a year??

As for why other things don't crash but minecradft does, its basically that minecraft is a java game which isn't well written at the code level at times, and other games are mostly well made games running their own software, so they are alot more stable. (i tried to make that as simple as i could)
The gpu is the graphics card processor, the drivers can get out dated by the game updating and needing better files etc, but the files themselves not updating on your computer.
The dxdiag will tell me (or whoever looks) what drivers you have, and we can see if they need updating or not
If it used to work, and then suddenly stopped, it may be that your son switched into full screen mode (or some other mode) that causes trouble.
these options are saved in a text file called options.txt that you or your wife could temporarily rename to see if that fixes the problem.
To find this file, in the launcher hit "Edit Profile" on the profile your son uses. Then "Open Game Dir", and options or options.txt will be right there.
No, you aren't. Don't hijack other people's threads. This thread is a graphics problem with an Intel GPU. You have an ATI GPU.
Sorry, didn't realize. On other boards I've been on they discourage multiple posts with similar problems. Hard to know the rules with a first post.
