I'm sure that this has probably been asked before by many people but i cant seem to find the answer.
I recently built myself a new computer (it's awesome and i love it) which has the operating system on a solid state drive and almost everything else on a 2TB hard disk drive. The problem is that Roaming\.minecraft is on the SSD. I know that unlike HDDs, an SSD has a limited number of times that it can be read/written to and that given the amount of time i play minecraft it will be read and written to several thousand times each session. Therefore i would greatly appreciate a way to move the .minecraft files onto the HDD to increase the lifespan of the SSD.
Thank you for your help, i would like to get this sorted ASAP as the blocky deprivation is killing me It's already been a week!
Each profile has a place to configure the "Game Directory". This can be used to place most of the files minecraft uses anywhere you want. (especially the saves).
Those other files should be mostly read only, except at launch time and during game updates.
But if you want to move them too, then you need to use the old fall back of a batch file that you use to start the launcher with a new APPDATA setting. Here's an example that sets APPDATA to wherever the batch file is. (and assumes that the launcher is in the same directory.) You can put paths in to control where appdata is, and specify where the launcher is.

Thanks! I'll try that.
I also had another thought: surely I can use the Tekkit or FTB launcher instead? Don't they allow you to customise the location of the files and then i can just launch the vanilla minecraft rather than a modpack?
