I click play....it logs me in.....and then nothing no new window and i havent change anything from playing the game 10 hours ago so yea no idea what is going on.
Nope just logs me in when i press play......the little green line goes all the way to the other side ...the play button becomes white and nothing else happens.
I'm also having this problem, as, it seems, are many others.
If you switch to the 'Development Console' tab in the launcher, you can see stuff happening:
C:\Users\Libri\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\assets\objects\0f\0f374764aafba398f4ba90dba05a53a9e6166138 for job 'Resources': Couldn't connect to server (SocketException: 'Connection reset') but have local file, assuming it's good
[18:33:14 INFO]: Finished downloading C:\Users\Libri\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\assets\objects\6c\6c6489f61ee7d2efa086fa63b23097530c52d26e for job 'Resources': Downloaded successfully and hash matched

etc. (The launch stared at 18:05, so I'm almost 30 minutes in, and the green bar reached 50% very fast and has taken the remaining time to go an additional 8% or so.)
This is just educated guesswork, but it looks like Mojang have somehow marked a whole lot of 'assets' (whatever they are) as needing updating, and now their servers are overloaded. If so, just leave the launcher for a few hours, and hope that (a) it eventually launches and (B) it now thinks the 'assets' are up to date, and so will launch normally next time.
Again, this is just a guess on my part.
In any case, watching the Development Console at least gives you more sense of progress than watching the green bar.
Update: Although it made steady slow progress for the first half hour, after that it made no progress at all for over 4 hours.
Logging out and in and rebooting and forcing a reload of the code are things I'd tried before even coming to this forum.
Update: I left the launcher running overnight. It worked for about 2 hours advancing the bar to about 90% and then stalled. This morning, rerunning the launcher launched Minecraft in a reasonable time. I don't know whether this is because it has finally got updates on all the stuff it needed, rewarding my persistence, or whether Mojang fixed whatever they'd broken.
