I have a Windows 8 HP Split-X2 with a working MC system 1.7.2. I was able to save worlds, and then open them again with Select World without issue.
I installed Open Office 4.1, and now I cannot select any of the existing worlds. Mouse cannot click them. Arrow keys do not work. Touch Screen cannot select them. No way to open existing worlds. Can only Create New World.
I have uninstalled Open Office. No joy. I have reinstalled Java 1.7.0.45 32-bit. No joy. I have moved the saved folder out of the game folder and moved it back in. No dice.
I have checked the profile box for the Game Directory and unchecked it. The path is accurate.
I have tried checking the profile box for the Java executable, and even changed the file to java.exe instead of javaw.exe. Still not working.
I hop u reboot u system after deinstall Java?
Maybe tray deinstall all Java and reboot.
After that reinstall JAVA. (Some thin special that u use the 32 Bit Version instate the 64 Bit Version???)
*Note: We got the Select World to work if we installed a mouse, rather than trying to use the trackpad on the laptop or the touchscreen. No explanation for this behavior. No clear understanding why Open Office caused it.
There is a note about touchpads in the Open Office readme.txt file did you maybe make a mistake following those directions, leaving a typo in the config file?
I myself was testing with a mouse, so I just checked, my trackpad still works with minecraft.
Does your trackpad work for other applications? If it just doesn't work at all, maybe it was accidentally disabled. Many laptops have a function key combination to enable / disable the pad. Don't know much about the windows 8 touchscreen behavior so I don't know why that would be affected.
Thanks, gerbil, for the OO ReadMe.txt hint. I'll check it out. Touchpad works with all apps, just not MC…unless a mouse is plugged-in. Then the Touchpad works. Odd...

Any ideas how to fix this?

I'm in the middle of manually upgrading to OO4.0.1 (auto update didn't work).
I'm a little concerned about the OO installer because it has stopped and complained that it needs to update Firefox and Java which are both in use....
Why does it need to do this? Maybe possibly there's some FF integration, but it should not be touching my Java. This is troubling.
edit: After proceeding Minecraft appears to work fine afterward.
