So I was thinking about getting a new computer sometime soon because my minecraft on my laptop runs about 10-15 fps all the time with the lowest video settings. Is there a way I could move over my minecraft world to the computer? Or will I have to start all fresh and over? Thanks because I've been working on this world for a long time.
If you are on Windows, press the Windows key+R and type in %appdata% and it should take you to the Roaming folder, which will have the .minecraft folder in it; your saves are then inside that in the saves folder.
Or just copy this and replace username with your username on your computer (not your Minecraft username unless it is the same!):

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves
Also, if you really value your world, you should make backups; at the very least to another folder.
TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
