I'm making a resource pack for the first time using a modified version of the default pack from this post. Nothing inside assets is broken, but it won't show up under resource packs. The single time it did show up, none of the textures or sounds were any different from default.
What I suspect is that I need to redo the .mcmeta, given that this is just a revamp of the default and the game may not recognize it (i did rename the folder and .zip). Here's the issue: I can't make or edit .mcmeta on my Mac. I basically need someone else to do that for me, and I'm not sure how that can be arranged.
So, 1. is there anything I can do to fix this without messing with .mcmeta? and 2. would someone be willing to contact me and help me get this worked out if I do have to edit .mcmeta?
Thanks guys. Everyone here has been super helpful.
Yes, it's your mc.meta. i know full well how to edit a mc.meta file on windows, but not on a mac. You might also need a MAC_OSX folder in the resource pack somewhere, as i have seen that folder distributed with some resource packs. Sorry i cant provide better help. Google is your friend.

Thanks - I tried. The only help Google offered was saying to use the mcmeta from the default pack, which I've been doing (and tried replacing) to no avail.
I also tried replacing the assets file of (a duplicate of) a functioning resource pack with my assets folder, which did not work and had the same problem of not appearing. I wonder if it's also possible for something in my assets to be broken, after all? All of what I've done so far is replace every sound, music track, and record - though, music and records are 3-4 minute songs, which might be too bulky somehow...? I don't know.
I can put the pack on Dropbox, if you or anyone wants to mess around with it.
Edit: Yep, just tried again; the default resource pack, once renamed, works on its own, but stops working when I replace the assets folder.
There might be something special you need, like the _MACOSX folder i mentioned. Ah yes. looking at a resource pack i received from a mac, there seems to be 2 things different. One, the _MACOSX folder is there, and a file called .DS_Store. looking in the _MACOSX folder, there seems to be all of the assets. textures, and sounds. If you'll PM me your Skype I'll send you the resource pack, and you can poke around in it, and look for any differences between it and your resource pack.

There are a couple of things wrong: the resource pack should contain a "assets" folder and a "pack.mcmeta" right when you open the ZIP.
Also, why do you have all the default assets in the resource pack?
That is pointless and makes the pack huge, and should generally never be done.
Only put things in your Resource Pack that you are going to edit and or expand on, you don't need all the vanilla resources, they're already in the game.

...Heh. Well, as I said, I'm noob. I was basically just replacing the files I wanted to alter, since the default pack included everything.
I compressed the assets and mcmeta as 2 items instead of in a folder, and the altered title panoramas are working, but not the custom sounds?
I spent a really long time replacing all the sound files with silly voice clips (since this is a test and I don't much care about the contents). Because of the 345345 duplicates, I made sure the original sounds file (the edited one) was in the newest zip. Still no go.
At least it's partially working...?
Edit: Scratch that. The pack icon now works, but nothing else. I deleted everything except the audio folders by mistake, no biggie though because the sounds are the important part. (They still don't work.)
Double edit: This is really odd; the music that is playing is really pretty with violins/synths/piano, and it's clearly not one of the defaults, but it's also not any of the music I put in. I know it's from MC because it stops when i hit esc or quit.
What.

This is not correct.
The "_MACOSX" folder is just a meta folder that Apple puts in a ZIP if one compiles files to a ZIP with it, you won't need to worry about it.
Hi,
Can you upload the ZIP you're using to somewhere like http://mega.co.nz/ and link us back the file so we can take a look at it?
Sure! Thanks guys. (gals? guys and gals? stegosauruses?)
MEGA link is here.
