It has gotten to the point that Multiplayer is virtually a pipe dream for me. Updated multiplayer or not. I end up getting a Internal Exception: io.netty.handler.timeout.ReadTimeoutException error.
Now, I've come to understand that this is a ongoing problem, but according to all I've found, it's only supposed to happen to the servers that haven't updated.I cannot connect to -any- server. Updated or no. And when I do? It's barely for a minute before I get DC'd with that error. It never changes. I've been getting this for a while, and it's been getting progressively worse. When it started, I was able to play up to 10 minutes or more before getting the error. (It started after 1.7.2 came out.)
Now, As said before, I can barely stay connected for a minute. Now, I know you guys are expecting specifics on my computer. I'll provide that, but first, I need to let it be known that I have removed anything Minecraft related on my computer, and re-installed. (Gave up a lot of single player games that I loved, but at the point it was like, either I choose the game itself, or the builds I've spent months improving and building. I chose the game itself.).
Even after that, I still have the same problem. This is for Un-modded, and modded alike. (I tried both,). Vanilla 1.7.2 servers have the same problem as those that have mods and have updated, (Or haven't.).
Now for the computer specifics.
Video card: Nvidia Version 307.83 (Says it's the most latest update)
Java: Version 7 update 45 (Recommended) (Uninstalled and Re-installed just to test)
Windows Version: Windows 7 Professional
Laptop or Desktop: Desktop
Internet connection: Both wired and Wireless
Does it effect single player?: No, just Multiplayer
How long has this been happening: It started about when the update was put out, 1.7.2, but got progressively worse as time went by. At first it was tolerable, now it is to the point of no return.
Minecraft launcher version: Minecraft launcher 1.3.3
Error code: Internal Exception: io.netty.handler.timeout.ReadTimeoutException
So for a little addition to the information. I've uninstalled and re-installed Java, Reset the comp, and everything. My firewalls are off, andafter the Java reset, it gave me a fluke of hope. It started working fine...Only to progressively get back to the point that I couldn't do anything in multiplayer.
Again, I know the error itself is an ongoing thing but from what the Mojong report here: https://mojang.atlas...browse/MC-34947 it's not a common problem, and only occurs for the servers that don't have updated versions up. For me, it's all. Updated or no. And it is Frequent. Happens all the time. Every time even. No exception save for Single player.
I'm running out of off the top of my head troubleshooting here. Can anyone give any advice/help for this issue?
What happens if you connect to a server that does not use the port 25565?
I'm sorry, I don't understand the question. Most of the servers I join have their server as websites. Only one or two is listed as just a IP address. There doesn't seem to be a difference between the two as far as connection. They all seem equally biased as to keeping me dcing with that error.
I'm having the same problem too. But this is affecting all my multiplayer games that are non-minecraft too. I have windows 7 too. I thinks its an issue with it. The error for all of them is connection or timed out related

The thing is, it doesn't effect any other game I play except minecraft, so I don't really think it's the same problem.

The same that happens with a 1.7.2, The error isn't just located to the not-updated servers. It's all servers.
I've done that countless times. I've no issue with the internet connection anywhere else, it's just giving me that error in MC.
