I have scanning all over looking for a fix and I have decided to make a post about it.
I am unable to allocate more memory, I have a 64bit machine, 64bit java and i have 16gb of ram.
When i allocate more memory in the launcher it works fine but in game when i press f3 in the top right hand corner my allocated memory is still around 288mb.
Well this didn't help in anyway, if you had read what i wrote you would see that i am doing this but it simply doesn't work.
You said what you wanted and I helped. You said nothing about watching this particular video. A simple thanks for the thought of helping you would be nice.
Nope for some reason it is still around 228mb it flutters up and down 200mb - 300mb
Used memory normally fluctuates. Allocated memory should only go up or stay the same. Are you sure you are looking at the right thing?
In any case, you should understand that forcing Minecraft to have a larger heap doesn't mean that Minecraft will use it. Minecraft will only actively use the memory that it needs to use

Hmm i may be barking up the wrong tree as when i attempt to use a high res texture pack it always runs out of memory and my allocated does go down but it's slowly
I had the same memory problem twice still don't know what the cause is. The first time i deleted the whole minecraft directory and started again. but after a series of adding a mod and restart test world to test. It starts off showing the 5G's i have allocated but then after a few restarts its back just the original footprint of 499Meg (out of 16G)... had yet to work out what the issue is but ended up using MultiMC5 to get around the issue but this doesn't explain what the problem is with the 1.33 launcher.

I used the MultiMc but sadly it still didn't allocate more memory
If you changed the Xmx parameter globallly for all Java applications, then there would be two attempts to set this on the java command line, and only one will be used.
One place to check for this is the Java Control Panel (access from WIndows control panel). Go to the Java tab, click View. Check that the Runtime parameters column is blank for any entries in both the User and System tab.
This may also be settable via an environment variable. Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts -> "Change my environment variables" Scan this list for any variables named with J or Java in their name, or variables with -Xmx on the right side somewhere and investigate if these settings are really what you want.

If you can solve this i will give you a big hug
