A couple of weeks ago, my fiance and I were playing on a single-player world I created in 1.7.2 on a LAN connection. Everything worked great. Fast forward to last night, we finally had time to sit down and play again, but for some reason when I launched the world to LAN the world would not show up in his multiplayer connections list. We tried to have him launch one as well, and it wouldn't show up on mine either. I've Googled this but all I've really found is people saying to use the MC client stuff, but I don't want to make a server, I just wanna play on a single-player world with the two of us. Please keep in mind I'm not very tech-savvy at all. If there is additional info you need, please let me know how to find said info and I will post it. Thank you very much for your time.
On an good PC, use the stand alone Server with fix IP settings. (is the fastest and easiest way to make MC work in network.)
Maybe look if u Anti virus Software or Firewall software was updating the last days (maybe there block u minecraft)
Feel free to contact my for more help. (My lady and I playing minecraft for many years over internet and i setup some minecraft servers behind routers.)
I don't think my computer's good enough to run as a server. Minecraft is really the only game it will run and I'm amazed it even runs at all. Also I checked my antivirus and firewalls and made exceptions on both ends (my desktop and my fiance's laptop) and still no progress.
- Use u W-LAN or CABLE Network?
- Use u Fix IP´s or DHCP?
If u use DHCP we can tray to use FIX IP´s and put them as an fix entry in the Minecraft Server list.
Still have 7 hours to work. After that u can me rich with Skyp if u have more questions.
My desktop is connected via a cable to my router. Would my fiance's laptop have to be connected via wire as well? We use the same network, just he connects wirelessly while my desktop (for some weird reason) cannot unless I use a usb receptor thing (no idea what they're actually called but it's made by Belkin and so is the router), so I have to plug into the router. The thing is, it worked just fine the first few times we played on LAN, but all of a sudden it's stopped working. I checked the firewalls and everything and made sure Minecraft and Java were allowed through on both computers. Still nothing. I have no idea what a DHCP is so I assume I must not be using it?
I've tried to give him my IP and the port number the world opens on to put into direct connect (as some YouTube videos have suggested) but he couldn't connect at all. I dunno what that means or why it didn't work. I'm not very tech savvy at all. I'm just at my wit's end. Any online servers work fine for both of us, though. Just, my LAN world doesn't show up in his multiplayer tab, and it doesn't show for me when he tries to launch a LAN world.
Little Question where have u read the IP u give u Friend?
I hop not via "http://www.whatismyip.com/" or something like this on u Browser.
(Thats wood only the IP u network was given and not u PC IP.)
U local IP its something like 192.186.1.xxx (Most Router give this IP range to the user PC´s)
I used the CMD (command prompt) function on my computer to find my IPv4 address. Was that not the right one? There were other numbers, could it be that I just picked the wrong one?
No the IPv4 is the 100% correct number. .-)
Maybe tray the same on u friends PC/Leptop. If the the first 3 number blocks identical its all fine. If not we have to go deeper.
And u friend use this number in direct connect function from minecraft?
Yes, we used direct connect. I will check and see what his IPV4 address is. Does it matter that I play on a desktop and he plays on a laptop?
Edit: Ugh, stupid Windows had to update on the laptop, so I may be sitting for a while on it. > <;
Edit 2: Okay, the first three sets of numbers are the same. 1(x)(x).1(x)(x).(x).(fourth set is different)
Sorry for the x's but I'm not comfortable sharing the numbers. Dunno if it's safe to do that or not. > >
Also, could our antivirus have something to do with it? I use Norton (I get the full security system free because I'm on my mom's subscription) and he has the most basic version of Avast! on the laptop. While I made certain that Minecraft and Java were allowed through both of our firewalls I did read somewhere that Norton supposedly breaks Minecraft...But I really have no other alternative as I can't afford to shell out a subscription fee.
I made sure the Microsoft firewall is off on my desktop, since I have Norton's firewall, and I also made sure to allow Minecraft and Java itself through the firewall. However on the laptop, I don't think the free version of Avast comes with a firewall so I think the Microsoft firewall is still active on there. I have to double check. Either way, on the laptop I made sure Minecraft and Java went through the Microsoft firewall and I think I remember doing something with Avast but I'm not entirely sure. Again, I have to double check.
Edit: Also if it helps any, it's not just Minecraft 1.7 that has the LAN not showing up issue. I tried downgrading to version 1.6.4 and still had the issue.
Ok i think we have to go to this problem little bit harder.
I hope i back at home from work at 6 PM. U can call my then and we tray via Skype to verifies the problem more efficient if u want.
An more efficient way wode "TeamViewer" but its OK that u want u safety. (i am an unknown for u)
With an standalone Server (bukkit or Vanilla) u simple can port-forward minecraft port requests to them. (work like an charm on my network withe 6 PC at a moment. 2 Different Portsettings for MC Server on 2 different PCs.)
With the client side Server (inside minecraft client) always get a new port and didn't found jet an way to set them fix.
Glad to know I'm not the only person having issues. I can't help wondering if maybe it's the game itself having the problems? But I dunno, since regardless of what Minecraft version I use the LAN game still won't show for either of us. In any case my computer isn't strong enough to run as a server and my laptop DEFINITELY isn't strong enough either. It's not such a huge deal I guess because my fiance and I can always go on a multiplayer server together (there's one server in particular we both really love) but I just kinda wanted to be able to play a game with just the two of us, you know?
Ritter I will try and find you on Skype to see if we can't fix the issue. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this, but if not then it's not such a big deal. But thank you so much for trying to help, it is greatly appreciated.
