I am digging around in a chasm and when I go to select the torch everything goes black with little white lines except for the various monsters and animals. I have tried most combinations of optiosn including turning advanced opengl on and off, all smooth lighting settings and turnign server textures on and off and graphics between fancy and fast. I also grabbed MC-Edit and ran a repair - but that did nothing. The world is pretty young too - I have not been playing it very long. Any ideas?

Also when I first made the world I was getting the 503 errors downloading resources, but that seems to have cleared up.

Any ideas how to fix this? I like using torches.

Turn off mipmapping in Options > Video Settings.
