I have 1.72, unmodded. I've been playing for two days since I updated it and have had no issues until today. I'll go dig out, say, a huge pit of rock, then I'll save. When I re-load the game, the area I dug out is back. I have all of the harvested cobblestone, my tools have retained damage, but the area I mined is untouched again.
Another example: I built a small wooden house with a furnace and crafting table inside. I cooked some porkchops and made some smooth stone. When I logged back in, the house etc were gone but so were the resources I had used in building them.
I deleted the .minecraft folder (except for saves), re-downloaded the game...I've restarted my computer since as well and it's still going on. I looked around through the forums and haven't found any answers.
I've deleted everything. It applies to older worlds too- resources are gained or consumed and the changes to the world itself do not save. I've made 4 new worlds, reinstalled Curse, deleted everything on my computer that might slightly be related to Minecraft and re-installed it. I used an uninstaller program and I can't find anything else to try fixing. Can I somehow re-install the launcher and re-update to 1.7.2? When I download the launcher from the site it already has 1.7.2 and nothing re-installs. I can't help but think that something in there is corrupted but I can't figure out how to freshly re-install. I can't find any other files anywhere that might be what I need to delete.

Any ideas?

Step 2. Profit!
But seriously, after you quit, delete the session.lock, that may fix it.
