Minecraft 1.7.2
Windows 7 Ultimate
Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 @2.8GHz
32 Bit
2GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT (latest drivers)
Java version 7 update 45
I typically run about 100 fps in 1.7.2. It's about the same as 1.6.4. However, every few minutes it drops to a about 5 and becomes unplayable for a minute or two. Then it goes back to normal for a few minutes, then drops again. This happens when I'm moving or standing still. It happens in fresh worlds and busy ones. It also causes a drop in performace across my entire PC while the fps drop is in effect. This drop in PC performace does not happen unless I'm playing minecraft. The only other resource "hog" that is usually running is firefox, but I've tried shutting that down with no effect. I've tried setting Avast! to silent/gaming mode. My next step is probably to disable Avast! completely.
Is anyone else having this problem? Are there any quick fixes? I don't know much about Optifine, might that help? I keep checking to see if they have an update for 1.7, but their website doesn't seem to have it yet. But I've seen other poeple in this forum talking about it like they have it installed for the current version of minecraft.
Thank you for any help.
