I updated to 1.7.2 a couple of days ago. I was thrilled by all the new biomes and content in the new update. Only real problem I've had is sudden FPS drops in a specific area of my survival world:
Again, this only happens in this specific area, and only since 1.7.2. I can't figure out what is happening. Entity count doesn't seem unusually high (come on, any computer can handle 138 entities). It also doesn't always happen immediately after walking into this area - it can take up to 15 seconds for this sudden fps drop to happen. After around 15-30 seconds of this, the fps returns to normal, only to be followed by ANOTHER sudden fps drop ~15 seconds later. There is nothing I know of around here that could be causing this.
My specs:
Intel i7-960 CPU @3.2Ghz (more than enough to handle Minecraft)
Nvidia Geforce GTX550Ti (not a great card, but still more than enough to handle Minecraft)
12GB RAM(Not sure if DDR2 or 3), 2 GB allocated to Minecraft
HDD: 2TB (not sure about anything else but I'm sure it's completely fine)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1
In u special world, make an copy of u world. Mark all in MC and remove all entities. Save and tray in Minecraft.
U will see after some times u Minecraft will slow down. its because u mob spawner and the floating device in side. And maybe the not light mines under u spawner.
(it cost less CPU power if u have floating water and not remove and set it at intervals. I have an castle with an Spider defending water trap. always on activating the server gos real slow.)

I just did that. I selected the ENTIRE world (all the way up to 256 height all the way out to the edges, and deleted EVERY entity. It didn't work. After going back and replacing my animals and villagers in creative, I went into the area where this was happening. Boom. The lag spikes happened again. Is there anything else I needed to do?
Oh, and are you sure the mob system could be causing this? It never happens when I'm up close to it...
Yes u have an tricking water flow in it. Always cost more CPU power to recalculate water flow.
Btw at a special bat bonus u mob system is in a junglebiom.
Junglebioms are CPU Power eaten up since 1.6.2 if i remember right.
P.S.: I take a quick look at work u world and only a high amount of cats a special on the map. (will see more after work in 3-4 houers.
Have u look if some CPU or HD intense programs running in background?
Only thing u can tray if u dont wan to redesign u mop trap or replace it to an normal biome.
Give Minecraft only 1024 Mb Ram, for some peopel this work bedder then high Ram reservation.

Okay. But how is the mob farm causing this? The lag only happens in a couple of areas. It never happens close to the mob farm.
Also, what do you mean by a 'normal biome?' Are you referring to the jungle spawning ocelots?
Please explain how the mob farm is causing this problem if it never happens when I am close to the farm, but only in a few areas.

- Close to mob farm is relative. If it inside u range of viewing it effect u FPS. 10 chunks is the default if i remember right.
- Normal biome is all other bioms like tundra or so. (more chunks away from jungel biom than the u viewing range)
- If u now this few areas u have the tool (MC-Edit) to look how is near them. (Jungel, redston machines, farms, masive waterflows, firers, masive minechafts . . . )

I have flay around u map 20 minuets and have an most stable framrate of 30 FPS.

By 'close' I meant right next to the farm, standing inside it, farming XP. The FPS is absolutely fine when I do that. This would definitely be within render distance. But like I said, the fps drops only happen in some areas. As far as I know one of these areas (the area around the infinite villager spawner) is JUST within render distance of the farm at 16 chunks. I'm just saying, if I'm standing right next to the farm while it's running and the FPS is fine, why should it make a difference if I'm 128 or so blocks away? Is there anything special that could be happening? I'm just finding it a bit hard to understand why the drops are ONLY happening in these areas.

I have also checked in MCEdit for anything unusual around. Nothing SEEMS off, but with this kind of lag, surely something is...
I'm running the latest Java (V7 Update 45) both 32 and 64-bit.
some wrong moved entities.
And last but not lest u active Redstone tick system in u mob-trap. (let the water flow or not, change stats all x seconds is an CPU hungry option.)
I have to remove all entities to fix the wrong moved, after that i repopulate the world.

B.t.w. i wood build mob traps and big Redstone machines underground. (looks bedder.)
If i right remember (have fixt some maps last 3 days) it was villager and skeleton.
Thanks!
Edit:
Oh, and I've been getting this problem in some other areas, too.

Give the program always time. (big worlds big time consumption)
U Problems are wrong locate entities. (The little read blocks in MC-Edit)
Some time its hard to see the problem. (Massive red boxes on one place)
