Hi,
I'm in a world of hurt and hoping someone can bail me out. I'm not all that computer savvy but decided to take on the task of creating a private server with the help of a friend who is savvy. The private server worked fine on my computer but we ran into problems with getting the port to open. I tried changing my firewall settings and router settings, etc, etc. but never got this to work. At the time of server download, I was running Java 6-something and decided to update to Java 7. This did not solve my problem but I was still able to run the server from my own computer (just still couldn't get the port to open). I finally decided to ditch the whole plan and use Hamachi. Only then did I discover that I could no longer launch minecraft at all. Not my private server. Not the regular application. I get a fatal error in the minecraft launcher window. I tried doing a system restore to before I messed with my firewall settings or updated to Java 7 but it still didn't work - instead of giving me a fatal error in the minecraft launcher window, it simply did nothing at all and I noticed that it seemed as though java was not running at all. I'm hoping someone can help me! Here's what I get when I try to launch minecraft:

Your computer is denying access to the folder that minecraft is installed to. try deleting and reinstalling your .minecraft folder.

That error seems to be a permissions issue, hence the "Access Denied" error.
You may need to try running Minecraft with a blank slate.
To do this, press your Windows+R keys, type in %AppData% at the dialog, and press Enter. In the window that appears, find the directory called .minecraft and right-click it to rename. Rename it to oldminecraft.
Then try the launcher again.
If that does not work, then you can try to launch the game as an administrator, but generally this is not preferred.
