then when the installer came up i uninstalled all of it.
went to mt device manger, right clicked on my display adapter and clicked update drivers(for some reason telling it to search where i wanted it to didnt work) so i clicked the 'Have disk" button and directed it to my
C drive where that file i downloaded was extracted to: here to be exact "C:\AMD\AMD_Catalyst_12.6_Legacy_Win8\Packages\Drivers\Display\W8_INF"
then i selected the top one of the 2 on the list, they installed and im all good!
i tried to fix this on my own and I'm stumped so i created an account to see if someone can help me. i apologize in advance if i posted this in the wrong spot or anything. I'm still really new at all this.
so i just recently updated to a clean install of windows 8.1, and when i went to go install and play minecraft for the first time the launcher came up and when i clicked play it came up with the error saying:
org.lwjgl.LWJGLException: Pixel format not accelerated

I've seen a lot of people having similar issues with windows 8 and they seem to fix it by updating their graphics card drivers, but i have updated through all the ways i have come across on this fourm and others and it always tells me they are up to date.
my card is: " ATI Radeon HD 3870(microsoft corporation - WDDM v1.1)"
that's what it says under display adapters in the device manager anyway
any help would be greatly appriciated, Thank you.

could you supply us with a dxdiag log please (see my sig for a how to)
unfortunately your graphics card (which i missed in the post first time round) isn't supported in windows 8.1 due to its age, you can try using the windows 8 drivers but that may not work.
your main options are to downgrade back to windows 8, or get a new graphics card (if using a pc)

aw dang, really? that sucks im pretty broke right now and i dont really wanna go through the hassle of downgrading.
do you have a reccomendation for a better card that is supported by windows? maybe on the cheaper side?
i did some googleing and do you think a Radeon HD 6450 would be a good choice?
its not just a case of picking a card, you need to make sure the card will go into your system.
any amd cards HD 4XXX and older are now legacy and will not be supported in windows 8.1, a hd 6450 would work and be supported driver wise, more recent cards also require a power connection from the systems PSU, if your system is older it may not have this and may need a new psu aswell (or adapter)
if you don't know how to work out what your system can handle then i suggest you take your system to a computer shop and get their advice on upgrading it
