I just upgraded to 1.7.2 from 1.6.4 (using Mac OS X 10.9). As I'm taking my boat for a ride into uncharted areas, the new chunks that are created are clearly incongruous from my existing world. What happened? Is there any way to fix this problem, or am I stuck in this crazy mismatched world? Thanks!
Ok so there's no fix, per se. It's not actually a bug?
Would a program like MCEdit be helpful at all...?
No, nothing can fix generation except using a MC version that the map was made on or a version that used the same biome generation algorithm and engine.
This is how life is with this, not to say why the ability to use any version of MC you want is now possible with ease. Use 1.6.4 and nothing happens wrongly.
This again though, is not a bug, this is expected because Biome generating has changed greatly. The last time this happened was Minecraft Beta 1.7 and did not change again till 1.7 to say.
The odds it ends as 1.7 again, except one was beta and the other was release.

There is tools to add new content to existing worlds, but that is all.
