I have had this problem since when they introduced the new minecraft launcher in 1.6. This would would mean I could not start the launcher. I have found that it happens to be my internet security blocking the servers that minecraft tries to login to. To fix this I simply allowed them in my internet security.
Here they are: https://s3.amazonaws.com https://authserver.mojang.com
This now means I can launch minecraft perfectly. However since the 1.7 update the server authentication has changed too. This unfortunately meant I got this error: "Failed to Login: The authentication are currently down for maintenance."
Now when I turn off my internet protection I can login fine, but otherwise I cannot log into any server. So it is definitely my internet security problem. All I need is a url address I can add to my "trusted" list. Or if you have another solution for Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 tell me!
