I recently started a new survival world on 1.7.2. I was exploring a cave a few days ago when my computer suddenly crashed due to it overheating (it does this occasionally). I booted it back up and loaded my game only to find a big hole in front of me. I thought this would go away after the world finished generating but it didn't. I have restarted my computer several times since then and reloaded my game a half dozen times and it is still there. The hole is about a chunk in size I think and goes all the way down to bedrock. I can't walk into it or place any blocks, also I occasionally take damage when trying to walk into it and my computer seems to lag when I get close.
Please post anything you may know that might help, or if you are experiencing the same problem.
do you see bedrosk at the bottom, or void?
its most likly a corrupt chunk, if you know mcedit you can use that to regen the chunk, if not you can upload the save folder to an upload site and let me know the link and i will regen it for you

k one image is just lighting issues where its black for a second until you walk up to it then you see it light up . minecraft does that. the little perfect 16x16 square is just a chunk that failed to load trust me if you were able to get that close to it and jump in and not crash the server computer or java itself then it your game and all you need to do is log out and back in so that the chucnk can actually load properly. if that doesnt work do as posted above me and get MCEDIT find the affected chunk select it and regen upon login should do the trick

the earth first! we can strip mine the rest of the universe after. click the up arrow if i helped.
if it is a dead chunk, viod visable you can use the chunk control button in mcedit (far right) select the empty chunk and click creat on the menu on the left, it will regenerate the chunk using the options you select
anything you may've built etc in that chunk will be gone, same with any tunnels you made, but it will make new diamonds

I downloaded mcedit and loaded my world but there is a new chunk spawned there (only in mcedit...) i'll try and sign out? never thought of that

I've tried this several times but every time Iload my world in minecraft launcher there is still a void in the chunk... not sure what i am doing wrong here
hhmm....you sure your looking at the right spot?
build a cobble wall around the chunk ingame, then quit, and open it in mcedit
im sure because i have buildings in the surrounding chunks... i hit "create" and then save before i closed... the other thing is like i said in mcedit the chunk exists it just looks out of place (square walls around the outside like when a new chunk spawns far away after an update)
yea corrupted chunk. pretty much the same thing every time im suprised that you didnt crash when visiting it. mcedit is amazing and if u see it again just fill the space
