Hey guys and gals - I recently updated Minecraft to 1.7.2 and since then a problem has developed. Occasionally my FPS will drop from my normal 150 to around 20 and then jump back up again - yesterday Minecraft crashed because it ran out of memory - what does this mean and does it relate to this problem. I have a custom gaming desktop with 16gb of ram currently running at 3.4Ghz but can run at 4.0 It has a 2tb HardDrive and 320gb SSD - I have not even gotten close to filling up all that space so what do they mean by saying that 'Minecraft has run out of memory' and how can this rapid drop in FPS be fixed?

So you're telling me that you can run minecraft real smoothly with less than 100 MB memory shared to the game?

If you have 16gb of ram available, your fps should be a lot more than 150. Definitely allocate more ram to minecraft

Minecraft has gotten so complex that my average PC is having a hard time keeping up with all the data. With my visibility on 8 chunks, I my computer slowly gets slower and slower until I get around 3 fps constantly, and I have to quit and reload the game. If minecraft keeps progressing like this, soon only beefy gaming computers may be able to handle it, and there are problems with that. The reason that you may be getting bad fps is that your processing units either can't process enough information fast enough, or they are out dated. Try turning all your video settings somewhat low.

GPU - AMD Radeon 7570
CPU - Intel Core 4th Gen. i7 4770 - 8M Cache up to 3.9Ghz
Memory - 16Gb
2TB HD + 320Gb SSD
OS - Windows 7 Professional

Does anyone know what this could be or how to fix it?

alright i know you are going to totaly hate this but im going to say it anyway, i had this problem with a laptop that had 8GB of RAM i deleted mc entirely and it fixed it for 2 days then it went back to being laggy so you can try doing that, ALSO you can turn down your render(thats what youll hate XD) and turn your grafics to fast and turn off clounds and turn the fps lock to max fps and that will fix a lot of lag, you could also try allocating more RAM as this will defenetly not hurt you gaming but it might nit fix it aswell D: anyway sorry if this is considered spam because of its lenth
