So as a quick disclaimer, I'm not putting this in the redstone section because this isn't a question actually about the redstone, but game behavior when using it.
So I recently built a HUGE redstone creation, and was planning on recording a video about it. However, when I took it to my good computer to run it, strange things started happening.
Things started very well, I was getting around 60 fps, and everything ran smoothly and quickly. However after around 15-20 minutes of running it, it was as if my computer ran into a wall.
I ran it again to see what happened, and I noticed that the CPU usage dropped down from around 25% to 10%, the disk usage shot up to almost 100%, and the game speed dropped down to about 1 tick every 30 seconds (redstone tick, not game tick). The weird part is that I was still getting 60 fps, everything just ran extremely slowly, and also that in the two times I ran it, this problem occurred in two different spots, and didn't stay consistent with each other.
I don't think it is an issue with the computer, because its Dell 8700XPS, with an i7 dual core processor and 8GB of RAM. For this reason, I think it is an issue with minecraft, or maybe some limit the game puts on itself.
So the root of my question, what is causing this, and what can I do to fix it? I'm working on finding ways to reduce lag in the game itself, but there is only so much I can do, since the build is pretty hefty. Also, this isn't the only project I currently have that is built to such a large scale, and I would rather figure out how to get around this now.
