-Xmx2G at the begining is how much RAM you give to the game -XX:ParallelGCThreads=2 at the end is how many CPU cores you have.

Install Optifine when will be available for 1.7 http://www.minecraft...__hl__ optifine
Also, change your smooth lighting to minumum, less particles and no clouds (do you really need clouds?)

1.7.2 has soooo many bugs or is it just me? Sometimes when I'm playign out of no where My FPS drops to 0 and 7! HELP!
I love this update but this bug is just annoying me.
1) Are you using an amplified world? That lowers FPS greatly.
2)AvancedOpenGL on? Turn it off.
3) Do you have your FPS limit at maximum? That causes lag spikes.
If all else fails, lower your render distance, and close any other programs running w/ MC.

I have exactly the same issue. Did that but I give my game just 1GB of RAM and 1 CPU core (since I think it just have 1), but no changes
My specs are:
AMD V120 Precessor 2.20 GHz
2GB RAM
ATI Mobility Raedon HD 4200 series
I know it doesn't seem like a fast PC, but it runs MC 1.6.4 at 40 FPS.
MC 1.7.2 has many bugs and that may be one of them.MC_Potato:Try the method MazeCraft recommended and if that doesn't work try to find some bug fixes online or wait until they fix the bug.

I did exactly what he said but before Minecraft even started I got an error that said something related to the Java virtual machine. Then, I downgraded the "-Xmx2G" to 1G and it opened, but still didn't do anything :(.
I know what the error is,I struggled to play MC on my old PC with ancient graphics.Java virtual machine encountered an error because it is using almost half of the RAM,but I watched this video and it works:
Hope this fixes it
Cheers,bros

But my problem is the huge FPS drop. The "Java virtual machine" thing happened (I guess) because my PC doesn't have exactly the 2GB of RAM I asigned to Minecraft throught the "-Xmx2G" thing, so it wouldn't have opened in any way. Also, it's not like I need more than 1GB to run Minecraft just fine. I just want my old 40 FPS

I don't think that would do something. If anyone wanna help me go here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/2087010-fps-dropping-to-0-7-in-minecraft-17-mc-not-using-the-graphics-card/
Though I think I'm going to give up for now and wait for 1.7.3 and/or Optifine...
LOL

But how is that possible that in ANY other game it runs just fine always but right when I go to play Minecraft 1.7 it "overheats" in the first second?
