The default paintings in Minecraft are boring. I want to have different paintings in my vanilla world but I don't want to have to use a completely different texture pack. How can I edit the way paintings looks?
If you go into open your minecraft jar. it should be in:
assets -> minecraft -> textures -> painting
It should be there, or alternatively you can find a download for the default recourse pack (not sure where, but I've downloaded it before)
I was messing around with things last night, trying to get it to work and no matter what I did I just couldn't. I went into my Minecraft.jar, and into the art folder and edited the kz.png where are the normal paintings are but when I saved and went back into Minecraft none of the changes too effect.
Also, I can't find where you're trying to send me. When I open my Minecraft.jar there isn't an assests folder.
Hm, there should be one somewhere, I've opened all of my jar's with winrar and they all have the assets folder in, it must be somewhere in your jar
There is only one assests folder that I've found.
Appdata -> Roaming -> .Minecraft, then it's the very first folder.
Inside that assests folder is...
Icons, Lang, music, records, sound, sounds, pack.mcmeta, READ ME I AM VERY IMPORTANT, and sounds

you have to go to minecraft>versions>1.7.2
then rename the .jar to .zip (if mac) or expand it with winrar (windows)
once you have expanded it, add a .jar to the expanded folder that was just created.
open the jar and find assets there. the rest is how ArcaneDan said it was...
assets>minecraft>textures>paintings
