Greetings. I have been searching and searching and have tried many different things to resolve this issue. So far nothing has done any good at all and at this point minecraft has become essentially unplayable.
What problem am I having? Well. The best way to describe it is lag. Blocks I break reappear after several seconds. Sometimes it happens instantly, other times I can be working for up to 30 seconds and then boom. I'm back where I began, all the blocks are back. but I still have wear and tear on whatever tool I was using. I can break the blocks again and they drop no items and the tool used gets yet more wear. This is on a single player map, far far away from initial spawn point, deep underground under an ocean biome. Haven't really tested it elsewhere as I have not been building anywhere else thus far. I also have no mods at all installed on my desktop minecraft.
What have I done thus far?

Tried minecraft (modded with forge/optifine and fresh install with no mods) on three different computers. Two laptops, and finally my desktop. Desktop has no lag and great frame rates, which makes this problem even more perplexing as the desktop has no lag.. other than the blocks reappearing for no apparent reason.

update video drivers. nvidia 560 GTX

allocate more ram. currently the game is set to use 2gb of the 8 my desktop has.
The game never really crashes so I have no crash report to provide. The problem just builds the longer I play and eventually no progress can be made at all as you are constantly breaking the same two blocks over and over.
Something else I've noticed is, javaw.exe never seems to close after I exit the game. I have to end task it manually before I can run minecraft again.

Did some more poking around and tried a different map, did not have the same problem at all. So I set up the profile to keep the launcher open and watched the developer log while the problem map launched. It did mention a misplaced chunk at 20, -60.... Expected the chunk at 19, -59. Second time I launched the map it did not give that error. Will try to get a copy of the log later today, the launcher seems to freeze up and stop responding.. Was trying to copy developer log last night but the launcher was frozen.

It doesn't sound like lag to me, sounds like either the game is running a mod, your on a server or the map is corrupted, try on a different world and see what happens and if worst comes to the worst delete the contents of your .minecraft folder. (Backup on desktop if you wish before deleting) (C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft if you didn't know the location of the folder) I know you said it is single player and un-modded but just incase!

Yea, I actually went in and removed all the files in .minecraft before running minecraft on the desktop just for the reason you suggested. To make sure I had a clean install. I may try redownloading the launcher itself, it doesn't seem to be working quite right either. I'm afraid it's the map being corrupted, I don't suppose there is a way to fix broken maps?
So. I tried once again deleting everything and redownloading everything. Now I'm getting out of memory errors. I have two gbs of memory allocated to minecraft. The good thing is that crash report told me a creeper (aren't they always?) is killing my game, gave me the coords of said creeper. Can't really navigate there in game though as the game runs out of memory in about 15 seconds and crashes. So I used mcedit to see whats going on at the coords the crash report gives.
All I gotta say is.... that's a lot of creepers creepin... o.O and I need a way bigger sword.

Yea, I actually went in and removed all the files in .minecraft before running minecraft on the desktop just for the reason you suggested. To make sure I had a clean install. I may try redownloading the launcher itself, it doesn't seem to be working quite right either. I'm afraid it's the map being corrupted, I don't suppose there is a way to fix broken maps?
All I gotta say is.... that's a lot of creepers creepin... o.O and I need a way bigger sword.
