All was good until I started trying to update my Minecraft version via the new launcher. The first two screenshots are what it looks like on startup, and the third is what it looks like when I attempt to log in. This will soon totally stop me from playing and any support would be great.
EDIT: I am unable to upload images, so I will paste what I can into here.

Considering I have tried almost every day for the past month, no. You're wrong. Thank you for trying to help. I also checked the xpaw site and they are up when I try.
then read the log: "Exception: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Remote host closed connection during handshake
Recognized exception: the likely cause is a set of broken/missing root-certificates. Check your java install and perhaps reinstall it."
If the launcher was broken for a month for even a subset of people it'd be obvious based upon forum traffic.

actually if you search it or anything like it on the forums you will find that an enormous amount of people have the same problem, and this has been happening to me since the launcher update. so before you say something why din't you also search countless times as i have and see if you can pin down a solution, because you are labeled as a support guru.

Your definition of enormous is wrong. Trust me, I've been here a long time, when the launcher is actually broken, then you see an enormous amount of people.
I didn't say it didn't happen, I just said that it wasn't the launcher being broken. I also said that 6 months ago.
Also note that it is hard to pin down a solution when the OP doesn't come back and report that they tried something and it still doesn't work. I'll be the first person to admit that Macs are not my forte. There used to be another support guru who was really good with Macs but they no longer post. Probably because they got tired of ungrateful people who only complain about volunteers who instead of playing minecraft themselves are trying to help others play minecraft.
I think I've found the answer to the ssl peer shut down incorrectly error here: http://macmanus.nl/2...teduseraccount/ it seems to have something to do with the fact that I'm running Minecraft on a Mac account with Parental Guidance that prevents an SSL handshake for AmazonAWS or something like that
Very likely. Many similar problems are caused by the general class of "security programs". Web filters, ad filters, virus scanners, etc. Many of these programs try too hard to not "bother" the user by asking what to do, or by notifying the user that they just blocked something. Then the user is left scratching their head about why something doesn't work.
Helping people with their security programs is also annoyingly difficult for various reasons.
