I host a private server on my laptop and play the game on my main PC which is a desktop. On Sunday 10/13 my friends said they could not connect to the server which I thought was weird because I was on it not even 5 minutes before they had tried. Again I was able to connect to the server and I observed the log, which I noticed [SEVERE] Reached end of stream for /1.1.1.1 (my IP).
This is a complete vanilla server version 1.6.4 and we played on it just the night before. There is never more than three or four people on a time, including myself, and I usually play with just one other person at a time. No network settings or changes were made to the computer before the error started occurring. I have tried restarting the laptop and redownloading the server launcher.
I have been researching the "end of stream" issue and most results come back with that server and client types don't match, the server is down or it's an unknown error that terrorizes players and no one knows how to fix it. Again, I am able to log on and play on my server normally - I am only reading this error from the server log. My friends are unable to connect to the server entirely and are not recieving this message but I am sure they are connected somehow.
When they try to connect to your server, does it not show that it is running? Also, probably not a good idea to run a server with that amount of people on a laptop...

No, it just says "Can't reach server" like the server isn't up. And it's fine to run the server on my laptop, it has dual-core 2.1 GHz processors, 4 GB of ram and I don't use it for anything else.
Mmk, when was the latest time you have re-started you server?
I turn it off when we're not playing, so all the time. The last time I played on it was Saturday and we played maybe 8-10 hours, then I turned it off. I booted up the server on Sunday, and that's when no one else could join.
The server issue being unavailable somehow resolved itself when I waited about a week. Again no changes were made to my network, both computers I used have been restarted and shut down when they needed to. I still get the [SEVERE] End of stream error for players but aside from occasional, unbearable lag and frame rate, the server is up and functioning.
Still don't know why it happened, though.

Any advice?

Okay, but the error has continued through on to today.
