I read another post on this forum by someone else having this exact same issue, and they didn't seem to get any answers to help them fix it. I also google searched and found a few answers but had NO clue what they were advising (I am VERY new to minecraft), and now for the life of me, can't find the page again.
Basically the mouse works for everything, left click works fine for everything on my computer, except breaking blocks and attacking. I checked the control settings, and a few had been changed (not sure how- possibly my three-yr old who also likes to play) - but I changed them back and still had the problem. I deleted minecraft from my desktop and reinstalled it twice and still had the same problem (but it loaded all the same worlds that we had on that computer, so I'm wondering if it actually deleted at all).
This problem started after we were playing on a friend's server with a custom map. The game crashed and when we got it running again we noticed the problem. It is the same regardless of opening different world files or creating new ones.
I did read some suggestions, but like I said, I didn't understand them (one said something like, emptying a bin file? or something? I don't know what that means), and can't even find them again with searches to ask about them.
HELP! We can still play on my laptop which is not having any issues, but it's my personal lap top and being a mac my son has a harder time using the controls, not to mention I'd rather have him using the family computer than mucking up my lap top!

For anyone else having this issue, make sure you don't have one button (like button 1/left click) set to two functions...... hehehe....
