You will probably have to delete ur minecraft and re-download. But that doesn't mean you can't keep your saves! If you have mc edit or know how to access you minecraft folder just go into minecrafts to the saves folder, drag out all your saves, then delete your minecraft. Thus keeping the saves. When you get the new minecraft access your new minecraft folder and toss them saves into its save folder. Now you can play your old worlds!
€If you don't know how to do this thru mcedit: open a random level doesn't matter which one, then go to the menu. Go to world info. Now click open folder (or was it called something else.. Whatever open the one that ends up taking your minecraft folder) do not leave that folder! If you have a Mac you can save that folder by putting it on your hot bar or you can drag the the title onto your desktop which transforms into your minecraft folder. Pc's I'm sorry I'm don't have experience with your computer. Inside your minecraft folder is the saves folder, you can drag that out or go inside it and drag everything in it out. NOTE: when you drag the saves folder out, Don't put it in your new saves folder, just drop the old saves(or should I say worlds) inside. If you put a saves folder in a saves folder... That won't work.
€This same process can be done for keeping your texture packs! I recommend only doing this with your saves and textures.
