I was hoping someone could offer some insight here. I've got a singleplayer world that ran smoothly on Fancy graphics with far render distance then suddenly started experiencing major glitches and/or lag by displaying the following performance in this order:
-Mined blocks (obsidian) would instantly reappear, needing to be mined again
-Block would mine but not drop mini-blocks to pick up until about 30 seconds later
-Framerate dropped significantly--graphics became choppy
-Walking over stone pressure plates no longer closed doors & gates behind me
-Iron doors take up to a minute to close when a wooden button is pressed
-Chests will not open
Additional info:
I had not moved into any new areas of the map though I did generate install and use Minecraft Overviewer a day or two before.
I installed "OptiFine HD C5 Ultra for Minecraft 1.6.4" to see if that helped but the problems only got worse / stayed the same.
I loaded up a backup save version of my world from a few days ago and it plays fine. Is it possible for a Minecraft save to become corrupted and cause these problems?
My computer specs are below. Graphics drivers are up to date and no other major programs are running. Thanks in advance for any advice!

From what it looks like what may have happened is the over-viewer corrupted a imported line in the level.dat causing that part to become corrupted. hope everything keeps running fine =)
Hmmm...I had not heard that. And...come to think of it--I did plant about 50 square blocks of wheat the other day. I wonder if that could cause sudden lag. Those chunks weren't loaded in the area I was when the lad hit though.
Interesting. I'm fairly certain I would not have done that. I just cleared out the wheat fields and lag seemed to improve, although it returned the moment I went back to the chunks that it started in in the first place, heh.
