I'm having a problem with dispensers. I am trying to get them to dispense fire, but they won't. They are powered by redstone, have a flint and steel inside them, and a lever attached. I pull the lever, and all I get is a puff of smoke. The flints wear down like they have been used, but no fire comes out and no fire damage is dealt to anything in front of it. This is especially confusing because they were working fine an hour earlier.
Even stranger is: the dispensers will shoot other things (like eggs) just fine! But when I put the flint back in... nothing. I've tried switching game modes, switching worlds, making a new world... no success.
I am very confused and have no idea what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I should mention that I'm on a Single Player, Local game.
is there a block surface in front of the dispenser?

There's nothing blocking the mouth of the dispenser. Here's a pic:
And like I mentioned earlier, they will shoot/dispense anything I want... EXCEPT fire. They USED to dispense fire just fine! But suddenly stopped. Its bizarre.
Doesn't that basically spawn a block? Thanks for the suggestions, but I don't need just a block of fire. I need to fix this glitch/bug so that my traps and machines work again. Pretending the problem doesn't exist won't solve anything.
Could it be a corrupted file or something? What are some things I can do to try and fix this? I'm new to the game, and still unfamiliar with troubleshooting for it.

It's not a bug. It's a game mechanic.
A Flint&Steel in a Dispenser only places fire if there is a solid block under it.
(Bear with me here and pretend the furnace is a dispenser)
This WILL dispense fire, because there's a solid block under where the fire's going to be.
This will NOT dispense fire, because all you have for the fire to go above is an Air block, and Minecraft physics doesn't like that.

Try /setblock then.

That's a really strange game mechanic. I never would have guessed that one on my own.
Thank you!
