So minecraft at my school is blocked and I've been using a pirated version that isn't actually blocked at school. Our school is very strict on computer systems. I'm in computer science so I have a little bit less of a leash. But .bat files and cmd and all that is obviously blocked. I thought about making a "portable minecraft" but that needs a bat file too run minecraft off a usb.
The just of it is I want to save minecraft world data and other files portable OR find where it is saved but I can't get to those files. They could even be placed somewhere else? idk
Every time I switch computers in school I have to make new saves. I want to be able to take my saves by copy and pasting them to my usb and taking them with me or saving all of minecraft on the usb and running it without .bat or cmd commands. I can make a visual studios project in computer science or most any other IDE's we have in our class. Could I program something to run minecraft off the usb?
You should be doing your school on those computers, not playing MC. And by experience, most 'school' computers can barely handle internet browsing, let alone minecraft at anything more than tiny render and 15FPS.
But, assuming you can do this properly, it's easy with the new launcher. Copy your .minecraft folder from \(yourfolder)\Appdata\Roaming to the USB, putting it in a new folder called MC on the root of your USB drive. you should now have (usbdriveletter):\MC\.minecraft on your USB.
If you can't see your appdata folder on the computer, create a new shortcut with %appdata% in the location box, or put %appdata% in the run box on your start menu.
Copy the launcher EXE to the root on the USB drive. Double click it just like you would normally do to start it. When the launcher starts, go to the bottom left corner where it says 'new profile'. Click that, and a settings box will come up. Name the profile 'USBsave'. Click the checkbox that says Game Directory, then in the entry box next to it type (usbdriveletter):\MC\.minecraft .
NOTE: this will only work if the drive letter of your USB drive stays the same!!! If the drive letter of the USB (it should be E:, F:, something like that) changes between different computers, you need to change this letter in the Launcher settings window too.
Try running the game with the USBsave profile. If it runs, great!
If it didn't run, try this:
Is the drive letter the the Game Directory box the same? Check it in My Computer.
Did you copy your .minecraft folder over to the USB? If Minecraft is blocked by the school network, it has to be manually added to this folder and it won't update.
Make sure that the .minecraft folder is in the right spot on the USB.
P.S Remember, the USB drive is going to be slower than any hard drive when it comes to loading or creating chucks and blocks, so expect it to be a bit laggy. Redstone often becomes unusable, and doors can be a pain. But if you're really this determined to play Minecraft, give it a shot.
P.P.S Also, if you have a USB3.0compatible computer, it can actually be faster than a hard drive. But school computers are almost never up-to-date.
Oh, and i forgot to say one thing: This will only work as shown on a Windows. If you have a Mac, I'm not really sure what the Order of Operations is.
And also, if your 'pirated' version uses a .BAT file, try getting the mineshafter proxy launcher at mineshafter.info. It's more reliable than any other hacked version I've seen, and it allows you to actually use the real Launcher, which is required for the steps I posted above.
