Hello,
On my computer, I have the latest 32-bit Java installed, and Minecraft works fine. However, I'm running on a 64 bit computer, and I'd prefer to have 64-bit Java as well. Whenever I uninstall 32-bit (or I've tried it by keeping 32-bit as well) and install 64-bit, Minecraft gives the following error upon opening the launcher. http://prntscr.com/1uhvdr
Does anybody know how to solve this problem, or currently have this problem?
Remove all versions of Java from the computer completely. Reboot, then grab the latest here Java 7 update 40 (64-bit), http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
If you still have the issue after that, it may be that your registry entries may be damaged. First, please remove all traces of Java from the machine. You may also need to remove their registry entries. Note that this is extremely risky and any "whoopsies" here will result in computer failure, please be extremely careful and follow the instructions I give word by word.
Press Win + R to bring up the run menu, and key in regedit and press enter. On the left of the window you should see a few entries starting with "HKEY".
Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then SOFTWARE then search for an entry for Javasoft. Right click on that and delete it. Now scroll down and search for WOW6432Node, expand it and search for Javasoft again and delete that entry as well.

Wow, I feel stupid. After uninstalling the JRE, I realized Minecraft still booted in 32-bit perfectly. I found that the JDK, which I also had installed, contains its own JRE. I simply uninstalled the 32-bit JDK and installed a 64-bit version, and Minecraft runs perfectly, no seperate JRE needed. Thanks for your help, though, I'm sure it'll help someone else.
