I got Minecraft last year, around 1.4.5. I had minor problems with lag. But now whenever I play Minecraft, on a server or on single player, I get loads of lag. It just freezes and doesn't unfreeze, so I have to force quit the application. Anyone know how to solve this problem? I have OptiFine already and just in case this has anything to do with the problem, I am using a MacBook 13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008. Thanks!!!

Never mind, the lag is pretty much gone and I am back to getting 70-90 fps

1. 1.6.4 actually reduces the amount of lag.
2. Macs are perfectly fine for playing minecraft.

No, A 2008 Macbook is not good for playing games.

It doesn't. At least not noticeable.

I've been playing Minecraft on a 2008 iMac with 100+ FPS usually. I also have played on a 2008 MacBook, with around 60 FPS usually. They both work well.
