So every time I double-click my minecraft icon on my desktop or on my toolbar, the icon highlights, like usual, about 15 seconds pass, and then the highlight goes away. This is normal, it's what my laptop does when opening programs. Normally, like last night, I wait about 5 seconds and the launcher opens. Now, you see, last night, right after I was done playing minecraft, my computer gave me a message that I needed to update Java, a message that I have ignored for a month or two. So I finally decided to update it, my computer started the update and everything went well. I opened minecraft again, and it worked. So I turned off my computer and went to bed. This afternoon, I turned my computer on and then double clicked the minecraft icon. Everything went well... but then, I waited for a minute, but my launcher didn't open. I tried and tried, even visited the java website and downloaded different types of java, but it still doesn't work! Please, someone help! I'm using java version Windows x64 from Java SE Development Kit 7u40 from this link: http://www.oracle.co...ds-1880260.html
If someone has a solution, it's much appreciated! My computer also uses Windows 8! I even deleted my .minecraft folder, but the launcher doesn't open and I can't re-download my .minecraft!
Thanks, Ducksquack (Why is my profile picture a trollface? No idea!)

Go to Control Panel > Uninstall a Program, then find the J's. Uninstall ALL Java versions you have installed. Then visit http://java.com and download the latest version for Windows 8, either 32 bit or 64 bit depending on your OS architecture. You can find this out by right clicking Computer, clicking Properties, then looking at the System Type row under the System area.
Give your computer a reboot and you'll be good to go.

I still have a problem. When I go to uninstall Java 7 Update 21, I get a message saying that the feature I'm trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. It then says to click OK to try again or to enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "jre 1.7.0_21-c.msi" in the box below. I can browse for a place on my computer, but I don't know what to do here! Please, you're my only hope!

Which editions of Java do you have installed according to the "uninstall a program" app in the control panel? You might have better luck removing older versions with JavaRA.

Thanks! I used JavaRA, and it removed my old version of Java so I could download the new one! Minecraft works! Thanks so much!

Thanks! Along with the info and the download link to JavaRA from cestis, and your info, my minecraft now works fine! Thanks so much!
